CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

 Hello everybody!

Today I'm going to talk to you about some aspects that would change my program of study. Well, I like my career very much but feel that it has disadvantages that can be improved and benefit future forestry engineers.

First of all I wish there were more practices. Although at present the study program of the forest engineering career has both summer internships and other subjects where the knowledge learned during the year is applied, these generally try to cover specific subjects in a short time, leaving other knowledge without being applied. That is why I would like the internships to be carried out in all subjects and that they have a more labor focus, to have an experience before graduating

Secondly, I would like you to change the modality of the classes from a theoretical class to a more participatory class. Although I learn a lot from the theoretical classes, I think that to form a good professional, the participation of students must be promoted through debate, in order to foster critical thinking of students, to deepen the contents and to improve communication skills.

Finally, I would like there to be more spaces for teachers to share their experiences with students, as this would allow us to know what the world of work is like for forestry engineers both nationally and internationally. They can also advise us to be better professionals and inform us about the research and innovations that have been carried out in the forestry sector.

Well, now tell me about you.

Cheers.

SUMMER HOLIDAYS

 Hello everybody!

Today I'm going to talk to you about my summer vacation of 2020. Well I have nothing planned for the pandemic, but if I thought where I would like to travel.

I would like to begin by visiting my grandparents who live in a village called Colonel de Maule in the Maule region. With my family, we always travel on winter or summer holidays it is a habit to travel to share with them. My grandma prepares us every day rich meals like lentils, beans and carbonates, but what I like most is their sopaipillas. What I like most about traveling to where my grandparents is that every night we go out on a hill which is 20 min away and walked to be able to observe the stars at night, it is a beautiful experience. During the day we went out to walk to different places in the countryside and also spent the evenings on the river to cool off the heat and feel the sound of the wind hitting the leaves.

Then I would like to travel further south. I would travel to Chillán to visit my friend Lucía and her family. Here I would like to explore the surroundings, get into the rivers in the area and learn to drive a motorcycle and ride a bicycle. I would also like to be taught how to plant vegetables and fruit seeds, it would be a very enjoyable and educational activity.

And finally, I would like to visit my friend Cinthia in Talagante to visit Cerro El Paico and Cerro Cueva de los Brujos and share a great afternoon with my friend's family, eating fried papitas.

Well, now tell me about you.

Cheers.

POST GRADUATE STUDIES

 Hello everybody!

Today I'm going to talk to you about my studies after obtaining my university degree. Well, sincerely this is a topic that actually has me very worried and anxious because soon I will finish my career, and I don’t know very well if I’m going to still study or I'm going to open my way to the world of work.

In the case of choosing to continue studying, I would like to learn about issues related to the conservation of native forests. Looking at the multiple programs that the university has to access graduate studies, I found a master's degree that caught my attention, this is called "Wild Areas and Nature Conservation", I like all the subjects it has, but I have a special interest in learning about the management and handling of wild areas, Biology and ecology of conservation and Conservation of flora and vegetation. In addition, I am excited to continue learning from the teachers who helped me the most and who motivated my interest in learning from nature, among them are: Álvaro promis, Rosa Scherson, Jaime Hernández, Horacio Bown, Claudia Cerda y Miguel castillo.

Regarding the modality to study, I prefer it to be mixed where there are face-to-face classes and remote classes, since I have always liked being in physical contact with my classmates and teachers and so from time to time I can directly ask any questions that I have.

Well, now tell me about yourself and your graduate studies.

Cheers.

MY FUTURE JOB

 Hello again!

Today I want to talk about the job I would like to have in the future. Well, I don't have a specific job in mind, but one job I'd like to try is being a park ranger in the national parks of Chile.

In the future, I would like to work much of the time in the forest, thus getting to know its flora, fauna, among other organisms. Another point that I would like my future job to have is to have the possibility of interacting with people, in order to teach them about the virtues and benefits that we can obtain when we protect the environment, this point interests me because I have always liked sharing with other people the topics that I love and that I think are very important, especially today.

In my future job I would also like to be mainly on ground and be able to travel to different places in Chile, to observe and learn about the different ecosystems, landscapes and species found in our country. As for the salary, I do not ask for much since it is enough for me to have a salary that allows me to pay the bills and save for a trip, either alone, with my family or friends.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Forest Engineering, but I am interested in specializing in the area of forestry dynamics. I think it is a very interesting area to focus research and thus be able to better protect the different forests of Chile.

Well, this is my idea of my future work, I hope you liked it.

Cheers.

MY UNIVERSITY CAREER

 Hello

At present, I’m studying forestry engineering, I am in the fourth year and I don't regret having chosen this career. This career has allowed me to know and understand the dynamics that occur in the different ecosystems that we have in our country, also, I have learned what actions can be applied in these ecosystems to improve their quality, to be able to protect and conserve them.

Well, I've always been a person who loves to be in a constant relationship with nature, I really like trees, that's why I selected the careers where it could be connected to nature, back then i had four options, but i decided the option that I considered closest to forests, this was Forest Engineering.

For another side, I had another option to choose from, which was the Chemistry and Pharmacy career, since at that time I really liked chemistry, but then i thought i always wanted to work outdoors and maybe that career would not allow me to do it, so I ruled it out.

My experience in the career has pleasantly surprised me, upon entering I thought that the career was more focused on the forestry industry, but with time I realized that it also participate actively in the protection and conservation of the native forest of Chile.

So, that is the story about my career, tell me about your story in the comments.

Cheers

MY FAVORITE MOVIE

 Hello

This week I will tell you about my favorite movie. This decision was very difficult for me because I have many films that I would like to talk about with all of you.

The film that I chose to talk about with all of you is “Coach Carter” . It is from the year 2005. This movie it's based on real events, it's about how a basketball coach transforms the lives of his students through discipline, respect and study. He does this with the objective that they aspire to aim much bigger than just playing in a basketball game.

I really like this movie because of the topics it addresses, one of them is the personal and professional growth. The coach Carter demands its students through a contract have a good academic performance not to add more academic load, but to open a new opportunity for them, and that new opportunity is to go to college with good grades. That's something young people have never thought about before it comes coach Carter in their lives.

Also, another topic that addresses is the respect for each other as players and to the rest of the people. Coach Carter teaches them values like respect and not to humiliate between them, because that way they will be better persons and players. The theme of companionship to achieve a common goal is also present during the film, for example: studying to play again or helping a teammate to join the team.

But the one that stands out the most, is the coach’s determination to change the vision of his players, so that the best thing in their life is not just basketball season, but aspiring to bigger dreams, like studying in college and changing their life. Although he has the entire community against him for the measures he takes to promote this change in his students.

Well, I like everything about this movie, it has many valuable points to reflect on and also to learn.

I hope you like this blog, comment below what you think about it. See you next time.

Cheers

MY GREAT ADVENTURE

 Hello to everyone

I have so many stories about my travels to tell you, but one of the ones I remember the most is about a trip I took in 2019, the one that lasted about a month and a half. I did this together with my great friends, Javiera, Lucía and Kathy, and it was one of the longest that I ever have.

This travel begins in Frutillar, for a practice of my university with my classmates, with them we had to visit and get to know some of the forests of southern Chile. I fell in love with all the places we went, but the one that stood out the most was the centennial larch forest and the Vicente Pérez Rosales park. Every time that we had a day off, we went out to walk through Frutillar, we enjoyed the delicious kuchen and We bathe in the lake Llanquihue.

During our practice, we planned a trip to visit my friend Javiera, she lives in La Junta in the Aysén region. We delay almost a day to get to my friend house, we had to travel by bus, take a transbordador and then walk. Once we got to the place, I met two very very nice people, they are the parents of my friend, Carla and Juan, they were very kind, entertaining, affectionate and generous, and what I like the most of them is that they are dogs lovers, they have four beautiful dogs;  Padme, Pedrito, Heidy and Luther, they were very loving and playful. In La Junta we visit the village and bought a lot of food and gift for our families, after that we visit the urban park "Las Bardas" and we went to a viewpoint where we appreciated the color and how big is the Palena river.

During those days we traveled to Queulat Park. We arrived very early to walk quietly, we enjoyed walking through the forest and once we reached the top, we could see the glacier, it was amazing. On this trip we enjoy the climate of southern Chile, some days was very hot, but others were with very heavy rain. Then we travel to the Pumalín Douglas Tompkins national park, there joined to us Sebastián, a familiar of Javiera, with him we walk for the trails: Cascada Escondida, Alerces and Volcán Chaitén. I enjoyed so much each trail as each one was different. Then my birthday came, and I felt very accompanied by Javiera's parents and my friends, they even prepared a cake for me, that moment was beautiful.

Then it was time to leave, I felt sad because this great adventure was ending but I left with the illusion of being able to meet again with those beautiful people that I met and continue to know more about southern Chile.

PD: I want to say thanks to my friends Kathy, Lucia and Javiera, without them I would not have dared to do this great adventure and I hope that we continue to have these beautiful experiences together. For another side, I’m so grateful with the mom and the dad of Javiera, they always treated me like one mor of the family, I really adore them.

Cheers, see you in the next blog 💖
